Thank you for your interest in the Husky Marching Band! As part of the Athletic Department, the UW Husky Marching Band is open to students from practically every degree-granting program at the UW, as well as students at other colleges and universities in the Seattle area. These students get the chance to take part in one of America’s most exciting collegiate marching bands, thereby providing for their continued musical growth and, more importantly, enabling them to establish life-long friendships and gain lasting memories.
I encourage you to fill out the Auditions Registration Form so that you may receive our audition updates. Please do not let the fact that a playing audition is required discourage you from trying out. It is a very painless process that will last less than 10 minutes. Historically, over 80% of those who audition are selected for membership. First and foremost, we want you in the band!
Due to the challenges that we have been faced with surrounding COVID-19, we have made the decision to hold ALL Husky Marching Band auditions virtually for the Fall of 2021. Drumline Zoom auditions will take place June 5th, 6th, 12th & 13th. All Wind video auditions must be submitted by Friday, July 16th, 2021.
If you are interested in auditioning for the Husky Band Drumline, please visit our Drumline Audition Page for all details regarding Drumline auditions. The UW Drumline also has a week-long camp in August (pending COVID Restrictions), and more information will be available upon successful audition into the group.
Upon acceptance to the band, all members are required to attend a mandatory camp (referred to as Pre-School Drills), which takes place from 8:30am to 8:30pm the week leading up to the 2nd home Football game. Once the Pac-12 Conference releases the 2021 Football Schedule, we will update the actual dates here, as well as provide any details regarding COVID Restrictions in our area. During Pre-School Drills week, members will learn our marching technique and fundamentals, participate in sectional rehearsals focused on music, marching and choreography, and our first pregame and halftime show of the season. Our first full-band performance will be at the 2nd Home Football Game (the first game is covered by our Varsity-Alumni Band).
Once again, I hope you will consider becoming a member of the celebrated Husky Band. Exciting musical opportunities and experiences lie ahead of you here at the University of Washington!
Sincerely,
Dr. J. Brad McDavid
Director, UW Athletic Bands
